1. Objective
The purpose of this opportunity is to provide training to an exceptional Postdoctoral Fellow who will work under the mentorship and supervision of Dr. Gillian Einstein, the Wilfred and Joyce Posluns Chair in Women’s Brain Health and Aging. Within her role as Chair, Dr. Einstein will focus on fulfilling the following objectives which will be supported by the Fellow:
Support an outstanding research program that will enhance women’s brain health the study of cognitive aging and associated disorders
Build capacity for research on brain health and aging that counts for gender and sex
Foster the translation of that research into gender-and sex-sensitive policies and interventions that improve brain health and promote wellness in aging
The focus of this postdoctoral fellowship position is to carry out a study of brain changes over time in middle aged women who have had their ovaries removed. Primary research methods are neuropsychological testing, brain imaging and hormone measures. State of the art imaging facilities exist at Baycrest Hospital as well as at the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto. This position will offer local and international opportunities for collaborating and conferencing. This study has multiple sites and opportunities to spend time at the different sites exist.
Applicants must be within 18 months of obtaining their PhD degree at the time of the application deadline. Further details on eligibility criteria are outlined in the ASRP Application Guidelines.
The successful candidate will having training in imaging methods (both structural and functional)
Experience running cognitive neuroscience experiments and proficiency in programming computerized tests for the lab and the scanner.
Knowledge of methods for volumetric analysis of hippocampus and entorhinal cortex would be helpful.
An interest in the aging brain, Alzheimer’s disease and /or dementia.
