Description
The overall goal of the Food Security and Climate Change in the Canadian North Initiative is to support research that will provide a deeper understanding of food security and climate change in the Canadian North, with particular focus on Indigenous (i.e., First Nations, Inuit and Métis) populations, and to support the development of effective approaches, programs and policy to address this issue.
The focus of this Funding Opportunity is to support Development and Engagement Grants to bring together Indigenous organizations, communities and other members of the research team, including researchers, knowledge users and/or partners, to work together to develop projects and proposals that address food security and climate change in relation to Northern Indigenous Peoples and communities using a community-based research (CBR) approach in anticipation of a future CIHR Team Grant Request for Proposals. The grants are expected to build capacity for multidisciplinary CBR in the area of food security and climate change in the Canadian North that has strong and meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities and organizations, or are being led by these organizations themselves.
The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $1.050 million, enough to fund approximately 7 grants. This amount may increase if additional funding partners participate. The maximum amount per grant is $75,000 per year for up to 2 years, for a total of $150,000 per grant.
