CEEHRC (Epigenetics) Research Consortium – 2019

Well-being, Health and Biomedical Discovery

Deadlines

Academic Unit: Inquire with Unit

Memorial Deadline: Thursday 4th, April 2019

External Deadline: Tuesday 9th, April 2019

Description

This funding opportunity is a key component of the second phase of the Canadian Epigenetics, Environment and Health Research Consortium (CEEHRC); a multi-agency, pan-Canadian initiative led by CIHR. CEEHRC is Canada’s contribution to the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC).

Epigenetics is the study of changes in the regulation of gene activity and expression that are not dependent on alterations in gene sequence. Epigenetics provides a compelling model for how environmental influences throughout life can have long-long effects on human health.

Over the past several years, CIHR has launched funding opportunities to create the core elements of CEEHRC. They included a National Epigenomics Platform (comprised of mapping and data coordination centres), multi-disciplinary Team Grants (exploring gene-environment interactions and the links between epigenetics and human health and disease), and the Epigenetics Clinical Translation call (to support the advancement of epigenetic knowledge into the clinical realm), among others. These elements are required to advance the field of epigenetics in Canada and to link it to human health outcomes.

This current Funding Opportunity is to support the second phase of the consortium structure for the CEEHRC Initiative. The national research consortium networks all of the funded CEEHRC components, and expands their reach to the broader health research community in Canada and internationally.

Funds Available

CIHR and partner(s) financial contributions for this initiative are subject to availability of funds. Should CIHR or partner(s) funding levels not be available or are decreased due to unforeseen circumstances, CIHR and partner(s) reserve the right to reduce, defer or suspend financial contributions to grants received as a result of this funding opportunity.

  • The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $1,080,000 over 4 years, enough to fund one grant.
  • Of this $1,080,000:
    • $250,000 per year is available for four years to support the activities of the research consortia.
    • $80,000 is available in year 1 of the grant, specifically for the planning, organization and hosting of the 2019 International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC) meeting.
  • Additional program details are available through ResearchNet.
