Description

ACGT announces the RFA for the 2025 Investigator Award of $500,000 for high impact, translational research in cell and gene therapies to treat gynecological cancers.

Gyencological Cancers

The ACGT RFA is specifically targeted to advance cell and gene therapy approaches to treating patients with gynecological cancers.

  • – According to the latest American Cancer Society data, the 5-year relative survival rate for most cancers has improved over the last 40 years. The only exceptions are uterine (endometrial) cancer and cervical cancer—whose survival rates have declined.
  • – Women younger than age 50 are almost twice as likely to develop cancer than young men, a gap which has widened since the early 2000s. Gynecological cancers, including ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancers, remain a leading cause of cancer deaths and a major challenge to women’s health worldwide.
  • – The mortality rate of ovarian cancer is three times higher than that of breast cancer and it is predicted to increase significantly by the year 2040. The current 5-year survival rate is only 25-47% worldwide, even after aggressive treatment.

Breast Cancer

Thanks to the generosity of our partner, The Cinelli Family Foundation, ACGT is announcing an RFA for a second Investigator Award of $500,000 toward high impact, translational research projects to advance cancer cell and gene therapies for patients with breast cancer.

  • – Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women.
  • – Breast cancer incidence in young women has been increasing as well. The rate of cancer for young women has risen by 1% each year from 2012 to 2021. In women under the age of 40, the rate has increased by about 3% each year from 2000 to 2019.
  • – Triple negative breast cancer also presents a high-unmet medical challenge with an average survival rate of about 10 months. Patients with a diagnosis of this aggressive cancer with a poor prognosis have limited treatment options.
  • Abstract deadline: May 16, 2025
  • Deadline for completed application: August 22, 2025
