Memorial Deadline: Inquire with RGCS

External Deadline: Tuesday 22nd, August 2017

Description

This funding opportunity is a directed grant to add a coordinated and centralized brain donation and brain banking system (neuropathology infrastructure) for the Canadian Alzheimer’s disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) participants in order to optimize Canada’s participation in the ADNI initiative.

ADNI is a United States National Institutes of Health-led initiative with a goal to develop accurate means to identify who may be at risk for Alzheimer Disease (AD). ADNI also aims to accurately track progression of the disease and devise tests to measure the effectiveness of potential interventions. The ADNI study includes scientists at fifty research centers in the US and four in Canada.

There are currently 32 neuropathology cores in the US supporting ADNI studies. Brain autopsy programs have become a central feature, but have been completely missing from the Canadian dementia research scene. Funding from CIHR will support this type of work in Canada.
