Description
Canada Biomedical Research Fund (CBRF) and Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund (BRIF) Stage 2 Funding Competition
General Overview
As part of Canada’s Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy, the federal government has committed over $2.2 billion in investments to strengthen the biomanufacturing and life sciences sector and enhance Canada’s pandemic preparedness. To achieve this goal, the government has launched the Canada Biomedical Research Fund (CBRF) and Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund (BRIF).
Through the Stage 1 competition in 2022, five collaborative hubs were established, https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/cbrf-frbc/stage1-etape1/award_recipients-titulaires_subvention-eng.aspx, and Memorial is a partner with the Eastern Canada Pandemic Preparedness Hub.
The Stage 2 funding competition is now open, https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/cbrf-frbc/stage2-etape2/competition-concours/overview-eng.aspx, and eligible institutions across the country can apply. The CBRF and BRIF funding are focused on high-risk and applied research, talent development, and research infrastructure funding. Each proposal must align with Canada’s Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy, and one of the hub’s priorities, vision, and research program. Proposals must also demonstrate direct contributions toward increasing specialized infrastructure and capacity for multidisciplinary, applied research, supporting training and talent development of highly qualified personnel, and accelerating the translation of promising research into commercially viable products and processes.
Please note that proposals will require institutional approval from Memorial and all applications at Stage 2 must be endorsed by one of the hubs funded under Stage 1.
