Canadian Armed Forces Health Survey (CAFHS 2019) data analysis to examine health trends and factors affecting Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) women and gender-diverse members.

Overview

Researchers are invited to apply for a new grant funding opportunity sponsored by Canadian Forces Health Services Director of Women and Diversity Health (D WDH) to conduct a focused, comprehensive and/or multivariable analysis using the Canadian Armed Forces Health Survey (CAFHS 2019) data to examine health trends and factors affecting Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) women and gender-diverse members. There is potential for up to three research proposals to be funded.

Research objectives

This funding opportunity is seeking submissions from researchers to conduct a focused, comprehensive and/or multivariable analysis of the CAFHS 2019 that will identify larger trends and correlations for women and diverse members. Potential topics for which D WDH has a specific interest include, but are not limited to:

  • adherence to recommended health screening (PAP/mammograms/colorectal/etc.);
  • health services access (satisfaction/wait times/quality of care);
  • chronic health issues;
  • mental health; and,
  • associations between injuries and military physical training or exercise (rates/causes/severity/location/types of exercise/FORCE test injury rates/causes/fitness levels/exercise habits) for its women and diverse members.

Anticipated timeline and budget

  • Application Deadline:
  • 6 May 2024 at 11:59 PM (PST)
  • Estimated Project End Date:
  • No later than 31 March 2025
  • Grant funding available:
  • Up to three grants may be awarded, at a value of up to $70,000 each.
  • Statistics Canada (StatsCan) fee:
  • Fees associated with accessing CAFHS 2019 from StatsCan should be incorporated into the budget proposal.
