Description
The Canada Graduate Scholarships Master’s Awards are intended to provide special recognition and support to students who are pursuing a Master’s degree in a health related field at a Canadian institution. These candidates are expected to have an exceptionally high potential for future research achievement and productivity.

Funds Available
As of result Budget 2024, funding levels are expected to be adjusted following the launch of this Funding Opportunity.
CIHR and partner(s) financial contributions for this initiative are subject to availability of funds. Should CIHR or partner(s) funding levels not be available or are decreased due to unforeseen circumstances, CIHR and partner(s) reserve the right to reduce, defer or suspend financial contributions to awards received as a result of this funding opportunity.
- The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $14,262,500.
- Of this $14,262,500:
- $13,912,500 will be available for the open CGS Masters, enough to fund approximately 795 awards.
- $350,000 will be available to fund 20 additional awards to support meritorious Black Scholars.
- Award funding is allocated as follows:
- Trainee stipend: $17,500 for 12 months, non-renewable.

Black Scholars
The Government of Canada has deployed additional funds to increase direct support for Black scholars. CGS M applicants who self-identify as Black and provide consent in their application to be considered for funds designated to specific groups may be able to receive this funding through a doctoral scholarship as part of this initiative. CIHR has 20 additional CGS M awards reserved for this initiative.
