Description
The CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative and its partners have developed the Implementation Science for the Prevention of HIV, Hepatitis C (HCV) and Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections Initiative in order to address the gap that exists in the application of evidence into health policy and programs. The goal of the initiative is to reduce the incidence of HIV, Hepatitis C (HCV) and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) within and across key populations in Canada. The submitted project must demonstrate specific relevance to the prevention of HIV. This is the second funding opportunity CIHR has launched on Implementation Science in HIV, Hepatitis C and other Blood Borne Infections. The first (Adaptation Grants) was launched in summer 2015 and results were made available in March 2016.
Component 2 – Implementation Grants: will support teams to facilitate the multi-year investigation of program implementation and/or scale-up across multiple heterogeneous communities.
These teams must meaningfully engage people living with HIV, HCV or other STBBIs, decision makers, community leaders and researchers from different research disciplines. Together, these multi-sectoral teams will identify target populations and focus on the identification, adaptation and equitable scale-up of promising or effective interventions across diverse settings/contexts for the prevention of HIV. By integrating expertise and skills from different sectors and disciplines, teams will contribute knowledge regarding program design and implementation and address ‘real-world’ programming issues and challenges faced by decision makers and service providers across Canada. The initiative provides the opportunity for important cross-jurisdictional comparisons and enhancement of horizontal coherence of programs as well as the integration of different levels of government/service provision for enhanced vertical integration of programs. Teams are encouraged to engage with partners involved in this funding opportunity, particularly those involved in the Federal Initiative to Address HIV/AIDS in Canada, to integrate expertise (e.g., through the involvement of government scientists) and collaboratively study implementation issues associated with partner supported interventions.
