CMC Microsystems has honoured microsystems and nanotechnology research excellence in Canada for more than 25 years through its annual Douglas R. Colton award.

I am pleased to announce the opening of candidate nominations for the 2022 Douglas R. Colton Medal for Research Excellence. A prestigious award for graduate researchers in the field of microsystems or nanotechnologies, the Colton award includes a monetary prize of $4,500 and recognizes excellence in research leading to new understanding and novel developments in:

•    Microelectronics
•    Photonics &Optoelectronics
•    Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), Nanofabrication and Integration
•    Internet of Things (IoT) and Edge AI (artificial intelligence)
•    Quantum
•    Embedded software

The deadline for nominations is Friday, August 26, 2022.  Candidates for the award must be nominated by:
•    University research offices; or
•    Companies in micro and nano systems related sectors in Canada; or
•    Jointly by a university and a company.

Any post-secondary institution eligible for support by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) or any microsystems-related company in Canada may nominate one person per year.

The presentation of the Douglas R. Colton Medal for Research Excellence will take place in the fall.
