Description
The Epilepsy Research Program (ERP) released program announcements for the following funding opportunities:
- Leveraging Research Award
The intent of the Leveraging Research Award is to support basic, translational, and/or clinical
research that repurposes or expands existing research resources to accelerate the
understanding of PTE and associated comorbidities. - Virtual Post-Traumatic Epilepsy Research Center (ViP-TERC) – Faulty Award
The ERP seeks to advance post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) research through development of
investigators new to the PTE field. To accomplish this, the ERP is soliciting Faculty members to
join the ViP-TERC. The ERP ViP-TERC is a unique, interactive virtual research center providing
intensive mentoring, national networking, collaborations, and a peer group for new PTE
investigators. The overarching goal of the ViP-TERC is to develop successful, highly productive
PTE researchers in a collaborative research and career development environment to enhance
quality and expand quantity of the PTE research field. - Virtual Post-Traumatic Epilepsy Research Center (ViP-TERC) – Leadership Award
- The ViP-TERC Leadership (the Director and Deputy Director) should catalyze the growth and
professional development of the Faculty in collaboration with the Faculty member’s Career
Guide, assess the progress of Faculty, promote the cross-pollination of different scientific
disciplines, and facilitate communication and collaboration among all of the Faculty and their
Career Guides, the PTE consumer community and the broader PTE research and patient care
communities. In addition to fostering scientific development, the ViP-TERC, through its
Leadership, should provide for professional and leadership development of the Faculty, to
include skills and competencies needed to fund and manage a productive laboratory. - Idea Development Award
- The intent of the FY26 ERP IDA is to solicit novel, innovative research that has the potential to
increase understanding of PTE and associated comorbidities to improve quality of life,
especially in Service Members, Veterans and/or their care partners. The proposed project must
be well-reasoned exploratory, hypothesis-driven or hypothesis-generating research and be
based on a well-developed study design and plan of analysis. The expected outcome of
research supported through this funding opportunity is the generation of robust preliminary data
to be used as a foundation for future PTE-focused research projects. - Research Partnership Award
The intent of the FY26 ERP RPA is to support new or existing research partnerships focused on
collaboratively addressing critical questions relevant to PTE in a manner that would be
unachievable through separate efforts.
