Description
Genome Atlantic, in partnership with Vimy Forge, a national defence accelerator, is launching a regionally-focused funding call under Genome Canada’s Genomics Applications Partnership Program (GAPP). The regional initiative is designed to connect regional companies and researchers with funding for dual-use technology development. With $900,000 available to support 2-3 projects, this competition bridges public research and private-sector innovation to advance technologies that serve both civilian and national defence purposes.
Projects supported through this opportunity will focus on genomics-based research addressing real-world needs identified by industry partners. Priority areas include human resilience and medical countermeasures, Arctic and coastal monitoring through environmental DNA, climate-resilient northern infrastructure, and advanced biomanufacturing and materials – all domains where Atlantic Canada’s research strengths offer a distinct competitive advantage. Proposals must clearly demonstrate how genomics research can address a critical gap for an industry partner and how outputs can serve both civilian and defence applications.
Eligible projects are led by Canadian for-profit enterprises, with a strong presence in Atlantic Canada, in partnership with researchers at eligible institutions. Genome Atlantic will contribute between $300,000 and $500,000 per project, with a minimum co-funding ration of 1:2, and private-sector contributions must match or exceed Genome Atlantic’s share. Projects may run for a maximum of two years. The Letter of Intent deadline is July 29, 2026, with full proposals due October 1st, 2026.
