Description
GLA has awarded more than $10 million in grants to scientists at more than 40 academic institutions to study Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.
Research Priorities
Lyme disease
Priority will be given to proposals in Lyme disease, host immunology/immune dysregulation with an emphasis on pathogenesis, post-treatment Lyme disease, direct diagnostics and improved treatment. Molecular biology and bioinformatics-oriented proposals are also considered. Proposals focusing on improved treatment based on novel antimicrobials and drug combinations are encouraged.
Babesiosis
Priority will be given to proposals that address critical needs in diagnostics, treatment, pathogenesis, and strain differences. Proposals exploring the basis for the emergence of antibiotic resistance will be considered.
Projects are expected to be completed in one to two years.
