A.G. HUNTSMAN AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE MARINE SCIENCES
2024 CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Presented annually by the Royal Society of Canada, the A.G. Huntsman Medal is an international award recognizing excellence in research and outstanding contributions to any field within the marine sciences. It is awarded to individuals of any nationality who have had, and still have, a significant influence on the course of marine scientific thought. Awardees are selected according to the following three criteria:
1. for unequalled excellence in their respective fields;
2. for the influence of their work on the course of scientific thought in their respective fields;
3. for their continuing and current activities at the forefront of their respective fields.
We invite the marine science community to nominate deserving candidates for consideration for this award representing any field within marine sciences. The two-stage selection process includes a Letter of Intent followed by a Full Nomination Dossier for selected nominees.
LETTER OF INTENT
• To nominate a candidate, please submit a letter (maximum 2 pages) briefly highlighting the contributions of the candidate to all of the three criteria specified above. Please also include a short curriculum vitae (maximum 4 pages).
• Submissions are welcome for candidates in any area of marine science including physical, chemical, geological, biological, fisheries, and interdisciplinary studies. Self-nominating letters-of-intent are also welcome at this step.
• Nominators are encouraged to consider candidates of different genders, global geographical regions and cultural backgrounds.
• The deadline for receipt of letters-of-intent (by email) is April 2nd, 2024, sent to the Chair of the Selection Committee (see below).
FULL NOMINATIONS
• The Selection Committee will invite submission of complete dossiers from a short list of the nominees.
• The full dossier will consist of a nomination form, a full curriculum vitae including publication list, and letters of support from experts in the nominee’s field of research. Self-nominations will not be considered at this step.
• Invitations to submit a full dossier will be sent by May 3rd, 2024. The deadline for receipt of nomination dossiers (by email) is June 7th, 2024, sent to the Chair of the Selection Committee.
