Lab2Market Oceans Program 2023-24

Oceans, Fisheries and Aquaculture

Deadlines

Academic Unit: inquire with unit

Memorial Deadline: Thursday 27th, July 2023

External Deadline: Monday 31st, July 2023

Description

The Ocean Startup Project‘s Lab2Market Oceans program gives university research teams nationwide the skills they need to explore their ocean-related research idea in a new way and identify commercial opportunities (e.g., startup creation, licensing, partnering with industry). It encourages researchers to take their findings beyond the typical academic path and into innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialization. This program is for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (with support from a faculty member) and includes $15,000 in Mitacs Funding.

At the end of the program, Lab2Market Oceans participants will have the entrepreneurial skills and competencies needed to understand the next steps of their research commercialization path. That path can be to create a research-based company, collaborate with an industry partner, or go back to the lab for more development.

Prospective participants should keep the following key dates in mind:

  • Applications close: July 31, 2023
  • Orientation starts: Jan 8, 2024
  • Core program starts: Jan 22, 2024
  • Winter break: Feb 19 – 23, 2024
  • Program ends: Mar 15, 2024

Interested in learning more? Prospective applicants are encouraged to review our information package or attend a weekly information session, happening every Monday at 4:00 pm NDT. We are also happy to do a virtual or in-person information session for groups, faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows upon request.

If you have any further questions or would like to set up a one-on-one meeting, please get in touch with the Program Manager, Marie Curtis (mcurtis@oceanstartupproject.ca)

Lab2Market Oceans / Validate is funded by the Ocean Startup Project, hosted by Memorial University’s Research Innovation Office (RIO) and supported by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Mitacs, Canada’s Ocean Supercluster, Springboard Atlantic, and the University of Victoria.
