Description
The Mitacs Accelerate Global Excellence Award supports outstanding international researchers and Canadians abroad in relocating to Canada to undertake collaborative, industry-focused research. The award provides $170,000 over two years to support the recruitment, relocation, and integration of international postdoctoral talent into Canada’s research and innovation ecosystem. A partner organization is required and will contribute $42,500 plus tax per year, covering half of the $85,000 annual award. Mitacs has partnered with CIFAR to offer up to an additional 10 fellowships to researchers affiliated with CIFAR.
We are pleased to announce Phase 2 of the Mitacs Accelerate Global Excellence Award providing an additional opportunity for institutional participation. Key updates for Phase 2 applications:
· Increased flexibility in identifying postdoctoral fellows: Projects can be submitted by a faculty member and partner organization without a named postdoctoral fellow. To support the conversion of projects within a reasonable timeline, we request all approved projects name a postdoctoral fellow within 6 months of approval.
· Extended timeline: Applications will be accepted until Friday, September 11, 2026.
· Adjudication: Applicants will be notified of award decisions in early 2027.
Phase 1 closed on May 1, 2026. All submitted applications are currently under review, and applicants will be notified of decisions in early fall 2026.
