Description
The Newfoundland and Labrador Health Research Fund (NLHRF) is a fund provided by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and administered by the Faculty of Medicine that aims to build a comprehensive multi-disciplinary health research ecosystem in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Deadlines
The Registration deadline for Innovation Grants will be: July 10th, 2026 (submitted to NLHRF@mun.ca)
The Application deadline for the Innovation Grants will be: August 31st, 2026
Each grant will be for a total amount of up to $100,000.

- There will be three priority streams available (please see application guidelines linked below for full details)
- – Top-ranked clinician-led application
- – Top-ranked early career investigator
- – Top-ranked application with a focus on patient-oriented research (matched award with NL-Support/Quality of Care)
- These awards offer one year of funding with a one-year automatic extension to the authority to use funds.

- In addition to these eight awards, a ninth award will be offered to the top-ranked application in the competition and will be distinguished by raising the total amount of the grant to $150,000.

- Eligibility: Any investigator affiliated with an academic research institution or provincial health authority in NL with a responsibility to conduct research. This includes but is not limited to the following units/disciplines: medicine, pharmacy, nursing, social work, science, and engineering.
- Both full-time and part-time faculty members are eligible so long as the position spans the term of the award
- Application package will consist of the following:
- NLHRF Cover page
- 5-page Proposal (references do not count towards this page max)
- 2-page Budget and Budget justification
- Please note that priority will be given to those who allocate a portion of their budget to the salary/stipend of graduate students, post-graduate medical residents, and post-doctoral fellows.
- Research Proposal Supplementary pages (no page limit however only the below are eligible)
- List of cited references
- letters of support (if needed)
- previous review comments (if applicable)
- 5-page Biosketch Curriculum Vitae
- NLHRF template CV or other similar biosketch template
- 1-page Response to Previous Reviews (if applicable)
