The goal of the Exploration stream is to inspire high-riskhigh-reward and interdisciplinary research. It seeks to inspire projects that bring disciplines together beyond traditional disciplinary or common interdisciplinary approaches by research teams with the capacity to explore something new that might fail, but that has the potential for significant impact.

This year’s competition is open to teams composed of established and/or early career researchers. Steps to apply include submitting a mandatory notice of intent to apply, and a subsequent full application.

The competition has 2 stages:

  1. Notification of Intent to Apply (NOI) stage with a deadline of June 28, 2022 (at 8 p.m. Eastern Time)
  2. Full Application stage with a deadline of September 13, 2022 (at 8 p.m. Eastern Time)

Applications at each stage must be submitted by the RGOs.   RGOs are free to set their own internal deadlines.

In preparation for the NOI deadline, we encourage all applicants interested in submitting a NOI, as well as the research administrators, to participate in one of the two upcoming webinars. Below are the dates, times and links to the webinars.

Webinars

Applicants and research administrators are encouraged to attend the Exploration webinars to learn more about the Exploration stream and the overall application process.

There are a limited number of attendee spots per session. However, there is no need to register in advance. Institutions are strongly encouraged to arrange group webinar sessions for their researchers. Webinars will be recorded, and the presentations made available following the session. Please contact your institution’s research grants office for more information.
