Deadlines

Academic Unit: Inquire with Unit

Memorial Deadline: Friday 7th, February 2020

External Deadline: Wednesday 12th, February 2020

Description

The Operating Grants Competition is the principal means by which the Cancer Research Society (CRS) fulfills its mission to support fundamental, early translational and environment-cancer research on all types of cancer to contribute to the advancement of science aimed at preventing, detecting and treating this disease. This program allows for the awarding of seed money to the most promising Canadian researchers who submit original projects related to various aspects of cancer. This investment builds on a previous partnership with CRS, and aligns with CIHR-ICR’s strategic plan while also promoting the funding of Early Career Researchers (see Eligibility). This partnership also allows CIHR-IMHA to target funds to support skin research in the area of non-melanoma skin cancers.

Research Areas

This funding opportunity will support projects relevant to the following research areas:

  • Breast cancer
  • All other cancer research
  • Non-melanoma skin cancers

Funds Available

  • The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $1,200,000, enough to fund approximately 10 grants to be equally funded by CIHR and the Partner ($600,000 each). • Of the $600,000 available from CIHR:
    • -$240,000 is available to co-fund up to four (4) applications submitted by Early Career Researchers (ECRs) relevant to breast cancer; if there are not enough ECRs in the fundable range, up to four (4) grants from non-ECRs in the area of breast cancer will be co-funded
    • -$240,000 is available to co-fund up to four (4) applications submitted by Early Career Researchers relevant to other cancers
    • -$120,000 is available to co-fund up to two (2) applications relevant to non-melanoma skin cancers
