Deadlines

Description

The goal of this funding opportunity is to support research teams that contribute to capacity building efforts in patient-oriented research, as identified in the SPOR Capacity Development Framework, and catalyze opportunities for new/early career investigators to learn in the context of patient-oriented research teams. New/early career investigators are defined as having assumed their first independent academic position (e.g., faculty appointment) no more than five years (60 months) prior to the application deadline.

Funds Available

CIHR and partner(s) financial contributions for this initiative are subject to availability of funds. Should CIHR or partner(s) funding levels not be available or are decreased due to unforeseen circumstances, CIHR and partner(s) reserve the right to reduce, defer or suspend financial contributions to grants received as a result of this funding opportunity.

  • The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $1,600,000, enough to fund approximately 40 grants. The maximum amount per grant is $40,000 per year for up to one year.
  • Of the $1,600,000:
    • $400,000 is available to fund applications that include new/early career investigators as Nominated Principal Investigators. Once these funds are depleted, the remaining applications in the competition will be pooled together and funded in rank order as far as the remaining budget will allow.
  • Applicants must secure partner contributions from non-federal sources to match the CIHR contribution at a minimum of 1:1 ratio.
    • Partner funds must be secured by the application deadline;
    • Matching partner contributions can include up to 50% eligible cash equivalent contributions. Partner contributions cannot be funds that have previously been leveraged for other CIHR initiatives, such as funding provided to SPOR SUPPORT Units and SPOR Networks.
  • Additional program details are available on CIHR’s website.
