Description
Through the Institute Community Support (ICS) Program, the CIHR Institutes and Initiatives are launching the ICS Travel Awards competition for students, postdoctoral fellows, early career researchers, and knowledge users to present their own research at national and international meetings, workshops, and/or conferences.
This ICS Travel Awards competition will not support travel for research skills development or update, exchange programs or lectureships.
CIHR is committed to promoting the inclusion and advancement of groups underrepresented in science as one of the means to enhance excellence in research, training and knowledge translation. CIHR’s position on equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is available in the Tri Agency Statement on Equity.
Applicants are encouraged to complete the CIHR Unconscious Bias Learning Module.
Note that each of the participating Institutes/Initiatives have their own relevant research areas, Eligibility Requirements and Funding Levels, which are outlined in the Sponsor Description section of this funding opportunity.
Funds Available
CIHR and partner(s) financial contributions for this initiative are subject to availability of funds. Should CIHR or partner(s) funding levels not be available or are decreased due to unforeseen circumstances, CIHR and partner(s) reserve the right to reduce, defer or suspend financial contributions to awards received as a result of this funding opportunity.
- The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $391,000, enough to fund approximately 205 awards. This amount may increase if additional funding partners participate. The maximum value of the ICS Travel Award varies by Institute/Initiative, but must be a minimum of $500 and will not exceed $3,000. Each award is for one (1) year. Please see the Sponsor Description section of this funding opportunity for details on funding levels specific to each participating Institute/Initiative.
- Of this $391,000:
- $15,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institute of Aging (IA);
- $24,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institute of Cancer Research (ICR);
- $40,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) – General Pool;
- $6,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) / Canadian Sleep Society (CSS);
- $5,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institutes of Genetics – EURORDIS;
- $31,500 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) – General Pool;
- $19,500 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) – Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR) Conference;
- $10,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH);
- $45,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institute of Indigenous Peoples’ Health (IIPH);
- $180,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – Institute of Infection and Immunity (III) – Spring 2020 New Investigator Forum;
- $15,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the CIHR – HIV/AIDS and/or other Sexually Transmitted and Blood-borne Infections (STBBIs).
